Accessibility

People come to Karen Vella — EU Rights Advisory because something is not working for them. The website should not be one more thing that does not work.

This page says what has been done about that, what we know is imperfect, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.

What has been built in

  • Everything works from the keyboard. You can reach and use the menu, the enquiry form, your conversation and every button without a mouse, and the focus outline is always visible.
  • Text contrast meets AAagainst every background used on the site.
  • Text resizes. Nothing is pinned to a fixed pixel height that would clip when you enlarge it, and the layout reflows rather than scrolling sideways.
  • Motion is optional. If your device asks for reduced motion, the animations stop.
  • Forms explain themselves. Every field has a real label, errors say what is wrong in words rather than by turning red, and they are announced rather than only shown.
  • Nothing depends on colour alone — a state is always a word as well as a colour.
  • here is a skip link so you are not walked through the menu on every page.

Where we stand

[ Decide what you are willing to claim here, and claim no more than that. “This site aims to conform to WCAG 2.2 level AA” is honest for a site built this way. Saying it fully conforms means somebody has audited it and can prove it — if nobody has, do not say it. ]

[ Known gaps go here, and having some is normal. Documents attached by other people — a scanned refusal letter, for instance — are not accessible, and we cannot make them so. Say what you will do instead: read it to you, or describe what it says. ]

If something does not work

Tell us at . Say what you were trying to do, what happened, and what you are using — a browser, a screen reader, a phone. We will reply within [ X working days ] and tell you either that it is fixed or when it will be.

If the website is in your way, it is not a reason to go without the advice. Write to us however suits you and we will take your enquiry that way instead.
